| Five children of our congregation (including two of
my own) celebrated the sacrament of First Holy Communion in May, 2004.
I was quite pleased with their preparation and with the mass itself.
We were blessed to have such a caring and considerate person to guide
our children through this special sacrament. |

| The children attended religious education most Sundays
(directly after mass), and had several extra meetings during the week
to prepare for their First Penance. Father Healy and the children's
teacher (Mrs. Hazel Heine) led the kids step by step through the examination
of conscience, prayers and procedures of confession. They had the
opportunity to look at the confessional during one of their classes.
The kids were relaxed and not upset when it was time for the reconciliation
service and First Confession. Afterwards, they were given a certificate
and some small presents, which they still cherish. One special present
was an ink pen on a cord on which the words "What would Jesus
do?" were printed. Now, when we have conflicts at home, these
are the words which we repeat. After the Reconciliation Service we
all adjourned to the community hall for a pizza party with Father
Healy. |

| The First Holy Communion mass was very special for us.
Because there were only five children in the group, it was an intimate
mass in which each first communicant played a special role. The children
did the readings, brought the gifts forward, prepared the altar, and
sang two special songs. One of the songs, done together with the schola,
was in place of the Prayers of the Faithful. The song was called "Light
a Candle for the Children of the World" and was so moving that
some people had to wipe away a tear or two........... |

 |
| After the mass, the congregation congratulated the First
Communicants with a fine reception in the community hall. It was a
very special day for us and our children - one which we will remember
for years to come. |
